RTM TV1 Live: Malaysia’s Premier Government-Owned Channel
TV1 Live, Malaysia’s first government-owned television channel, was launched on December 28, 1963. Fully owned by the Malaysian government, TV1 offers a diverse range of educational and entertainment programs in both Malay and English.
On August 4, 2004, TV1, also known as RTM1 Malaysia, was re-launched with a new logo and name by the Minister of Information, Datuk Paduka Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir. This rebranding introduced the slogan “Your Infotainment Channel,” previously known as “Perdana Channel.” Additionally, during RTM’s 60th anniversary, TV1 was referred to as the “Inforia Channel.” RTM2/TV2 also underwent a rebranding with a new logo and name on August 20, 2004.
TV1 Malaysia: A Trusted Family Channel
On March 31, 2006, TV1 Malaysia changed its slogan from “Your Infotainment Channel” to “Inforia Channel,” aligning with the government’s policy to promote the Malay language. This update replaced the foreign term “infotainment.”
As a non-profit government agency free from business pressures, RTM1 is ideal for family viewing. Daily broadcasts start 10 minutes before the Subuh Adhan at 5:45 am and end at 2:00 am. From August 1, 2005, to April 1, 2006, RTM1 broadcasted 24 hours a day, a practice now reserved for Ramadan. Since August 21, 2012, RTM1 has resumed 24-hour broadcasting.
Currently, RTM1 broadcasts on VHF wave 3, with wave 1 used in remote areas. In the Klang Valley, the VHF channel is on wave 5. TV1 is also available on Astro (Malaysia) and MYTV on Channel 101.
